..::Pop Culture::..

Another not so exciting week for pop culture in my life.
With exams and homework, I do not get very much time to lounge around and watch a movie, read a magazine, or catch all of my favorite show's season premieres. I wasn't a total nerd all week though, I did just get done watching the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy. This week I also watched the movie Click.

I get so excited to watch Grey's Anatomy every week, and i've been waiting anxiously for it to come back all summer. Finally, it's back! So much drama and excitment! The premiere was almost as wild as the finale, which is saying a lot.
I love "Greys" because every character always has some crazy problem that they have to fix/deal with throughout the hour-long show. Oh, and the best part is that it is set in Seattle...

The movie Click was portrayed in advertisements as a another funny Adam Sandler film. So, that was what i was anticipating as I sat down to watch it. The movie begins with some humor, but quickly turns into a movie that really makes you think about how you're going to live your life. It becomes a very deep and sad movie that might just make you shed a tear. This goes for both guys and girls. I know this because I watched the movie in a fraternity, and the guys were getting a little teary-eyed toward the end of the movie with me. Definitely recommend this movie to everyone!

Next week there should be more to write about because I have no exams or papers!

Nothing too exciting

Lately I've been very busy with homework and studying, but I still managed to go to the movies once and watch some in my rec room with some of my friends. Nothing too terribly exciting, just movies to pass the time and relax in between exams, quizzes, and homework/studying.

A couple of weeks ago I did go see "3:10 to Yuma" with some friends. Going into the movie I figured I would hate it because westerns really aren't my cup of tea. Strangely enough I completely enjoyed it and would recommend it. It had a really odd, but hilarious kind of humor to it. It was a great story, had a lot of action, blood, and the typical "bad guys".

For some reason, the girls in my sorority chose to watch the dumbest chick flicks in our rec room. Last week we watched "Moulin Rouge"and "Coyote Ugly". "Moulin Rouge" is such an artist, but VERY weird movie. The characters and setting are very creepy at times and the story is a little too much to handle. Being a musical person, i love the fact that the characters break into song a lot. "Coyote Ugly" is a very provacative movie with bad actors. The main character is such a terrible actress! She makes the entire movie incredibly difficult to watch. The story is fun and interesting, not so sure if it's all that realistic. That could just be me being a tough critic though. Both, in my mind, are terrible movies.

Very boring week when it comes to popular culture.

summer pop culture

Even though I was extremely busy this summer, I did manage to find the time (and money) to go to the movies.
I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 3, disturbia, shrek 3, premonition, superbad, Harry Potter 5, and 28 weeks later. Pretty sure that i'm leaving some movies out, but with a list like that, who would'nt?

First of all, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are my favorite movies ever. The adventure, excitement, and thrill that those movies provide really keep audiences interested. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in complete pirate garb is just a huge bonus. I believe this movie was equally as amazing as the first two, but it was a lot more terrifying. Which for me, makes it better.

Disturbia was another great movie that I saw this summer. I was'nt a fan of the acting or the lines, but the story was gripping. I was definitely completely in my seat, legs and all, with my hands over my eyes for probably half the movie. This movie i would recommend seeing. It's a typical horror/mystery movie. You always know when something bad is about to happen, you just never know what it's going to be. Just prepare yourself for the stressful, nail-biter.

I am a huge fan of the Shrek movies, but Shrek 3 did not impress me. The jokes all seemed to be kind of the same as in the first two movies. It seemed to be more of a children's movie than the first two. I was actually kind of bored throughout the movie. Yes, it was cute and fun, but it was not for me.

Premonition is another movie that I would highly recommend. It has a lot of twists and turns. Personally, I liked it because it really makes you think. You can't just sit and watch what is going to happen next, It was more of a jigsaw puzzle than that. In order to really understand and enjoy the movie, you had to put the pieces together, which i really liked. There were a lot of stressful and scary parts in this movie. It was also incredibly sad. When I was done watching this movie I called my boyfriend to tell him how much he means to me, that's how moving this movie is.

Superbad is the ultimate college kid movie. It was the most vulgar movie I have ever seen, but i completely enjoyed it. It was dirtier than 40 Year Old Virgin, by far. There is not much else to say about this movie. It's one of those movies that you have to watch to understand.

Harry Potter is another incredible series that I am crazy about. The 5th movie was just as amazing as the rest. Throughout the series the movies have become more adult and more thrilling. This movie was scary right from the get-go. There is a little bit of romance in the 5th movie, which makes it more adult. I loved this movie and cannot wait for the next one to come out.

28 Weeks Later is a typical zombie movie. I didn't like it very much at all. It was too scary for me, which is saying something. It was gross, unrealistic, and I did not like the story line. I didn't watch half of it because my hands were covering my eyes. So, I guess I wouldn't be the best person to be advertising this movie.

I didn't watch any television this summer. I don't really like watching television. So, I have no TV shows to talk about.

Well, there you have it, my favorite and least favorite movies of the summer!!
